Y3 Synagogue - June 2019

This term Year 3 are learning about worship in their RE lessons and this week they visited the Portsmouth and Southsea Synagogue. The children were extremely well behaved and very good listeners as Mr Clannachan explained to them what a service at the synagogue looks like and important facts about what Jews believe.

The children particularly enjoyed looking at the Torah scrolls which are kept inside the Ark.  They learnt how the scrolls are read from right to left and how a yad pointer is used so that the letters are not smudged. They were amazed that each scroll is written by hand which takes about 6 years and are written by one person.
